You have to associate with people you might not like and you always have a boss looking over your shoulder. People also hate having to dress up for work. A business suit can be so hot and uncomfortable. If you are like most people in this country you would like to work at home. However, if you are also like most people in this country you probably don't know how. One option you might want to consider is running an eBay business from home. Like any other business venture you need to take this seriously. You need to investigate what it means to start a new business and you need to know that it will be difficult to do so. However, if you are interesting in the possibility of working from home with an eBay business, you might want to take a look at some of thes pointers about eBay businesses:

  1. Make sure that your eBay business is legal. Simply because you are working from home and selling on eBay doesn't mean that you are not running a legitimate business. Your eBay business will be a business much like any other and will require that you license your business appropriately. The laws that govern this sort of thing vary by the area you live in. Check in with your local commerce office and see what you will need to do. Another related and important issue is zoning. You might think that since you will be working from home that you do not need some sort of permission to do so. This might be the case but you will have to check your business zoning laws in your area.

  2. Have insurance. If you are working from home you will hav a fair amount of stuff in your home while running your eBay business. If this stuff were to burn up or be stolen in a massive robbery you would be in serious trouble. You need to have insurance for the inventory of your business. Look into finding some good coverage in your area. This will be especially serious if you start to grow your business and have a large inventory.

  3. Have some good accounting. Realize that your business will be taxed like any other. You should research the tax laws and find out what kind of tax liability you will have. Realize that you will need to collect sales tax as a percetang of your sales. Along with this, you need to have very good records of all your buying and selling so that if you are audited you will have some sort of record. Besides this, good records will help you to analyze your business. You will be able to tell if you are succeding or failing.

  4. Separate your bank accounts. Don't work from your personal bank account. This could create serious accounting problems and potential tax problems. Remember that you business is a separate entity and needs to be treated that way.

  5. There are lots of other things to watch for with your eBay home business. Some of the most important are clear legal precautions and good accounting.
